Reviews for Seven Words for Sand
"This was a refreshing change of pace in my busy little world. The
seven words for sand? I cant tell you that, but as you read the
book, a new word and meaning are revealed per chapter. Mr. Serafino has
constructed a fun world that young adults will easily submerge themselves
into and quickly feel as though Nick is telling them the story personally.
If you have young readers (Id say 10-14) in your house, you know
they spend a great deal of time on the computer anyway
this is a
good investment into their computer time, their entertainment, and promotion
of reading."
-- Izzy, Fallen Angel Reviews
"(Allans) background as a poet is evident in his ability to evoke
the ever-changing moods of the desert, and his knowledge of Islam and
nomadic customs gives the story a strong sense of place. But like all
good stories of travel and adventure, it is Nicks journey within
himself that makes the reader keep turning pages to see what will happen
next."
-- Glen Ebisch, author
"Skillfully involving the reader in Nick's adventures, misfortunes,
victories, and struggles, Allan Serafino creates a gripping story that
is not easily put down. Without the fluff so often found in adventure
stories written strictly for an adult audience, yet also devoid of the
sometimes patronizing political correctness found in youth literature,
this book moves at the swift pace of the young (and older) reader's imagination
and the inborn impatience of the adventurer."
-- Sylvia Cochran, Roundtable Reviews
This is a great desert adventure story. Nick could be any normal
teenager, put into what looks like an impossible situation. He has to
save his dad, but doubts his own abilities. He also manages to go from
scoffing at local customs and the law of the desert to understanding
them; and realizing that his life, and his dads life, may depend
on his using what hes learned. There are plenty of twists in this
tale, and this, coupled with Nicks emerging confidence, should keep
readers glued to the pages.
